Social media usage is finally picking up in healthcare. Institutions like the Heart Center at Boston Children’s Hospital are forging communities with photos and narratives about children heart patients.

This sounds nice, but it can go wrong. So wrong.

Like that time an employee at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center posted photos of a patient’s medical record and mocked the patient’s condition. When informed that he was violating HIPAA, the employee became defensive instead of removing the offensive material.
